Canopy supports private landowners, institutions, initiatives, and communities to restore degraded landscapes back to thriving tropical forest ecosystems of native species. In the process, we are regenerating soils, capturing and storing carbon, and bringing back vital biodiversity, all while creating forest-based and regenerative agroforestry revenue models for investors and communities. We're growing better forests for posterity – forests that are more valuable while standing than when they're cut down.

We plant a high density, high diversity of native species and give them intensive care for at least 3 years.
And with the right conditions in place, natural regeneration takes course; the soil seed bank comes alive again while birds and other agents of seed rain bring in more seeds to complement our efforts. With these efforts coming together, magic happens!
Our lives & livelihoods are forever tied to the forest
While they occupy only 3.6% of earth's surface, tropical forests are home to over 50% of all terrestrial plants and animals. They provide food, medicine, freshwater, cleaner air, wood and other forest products; regulate our climate and are important carbon sinks. Yet in the face of huge deforestation driven by industrial agriculture, their future is in peril, and so is ours. Our commitment to forest restoration, therefore, is less to save the forests and more to save our future.
